About the Competition

The National Office of Handicrafts intends to organise a Handicrafts Olympiad competition in plant fibre crafts, specialising in the makab weaving technique using palm leaves. The competition will take place as part of the 43rd edition of the Innovation Fair for Handicrafts, scheduled for 2027 at the Kram Exhibition Centre.

Competition Objectives

• Raise awareness of the makab weaving technique within plant fibre crafts among the general public, professionals and young people.
• Encourage artisans to preserve this traditional craft and promote a spirit of competition among them.
• Preserve traditional craftsmanship standards and ensure the quality of authentic national products, particularly as raw materials are available in several regions of the country.

Participation Requirements

• Applicants must be registered artisans holding an artisan registration receipt in the field of plant fibre crafts and must be proficient in the makab weaving technique using palm leaves.
• The application file must include an application signed by the artisan and approved by the regional delegate of the National Office of Handicrafts responsible for the applicant's area.
• A copy of the national identity card.
• A copy of the artisan registration receipt.

Professional Assessment Criteria

Prizes will be awarded to the participants who achieve the first three places, following an assessment of their practical work by the national committee established for this purpose.
